Week of Awesome: Recap!

The week of November 12th, 2018 marked the revival of a great student initiative, the “Week of Awesome”. It was a whole 5 days dedicated to spreading positivity, happiness, and appreciation across campus. With a different theme each day we aimed to showcase what it truly means to value the little things in life; the impact of a smile, a random hug or high-five, or a simple “thank you” can go a long way in making someone’s day brighter. We gathered student volunteers from various groups on campus to get things in motion -- Stony Brook Athletics, Campus Residences, National Residence Hall Honorary, and the Center for Civic Justice to name a few. The amount of support we received was truly inspiring and the smiles we created together made all of our efforts absolutely worth it.

Monday started us off with Smile Day, followed by Bus Driver Appreciation, Free Hug & High-Fives, Posting Positivity, and Administrative Thank You Day. Each one brought a similar, positive vibe. Thursday’s “Posting Positivity Day” even started its own little movement, where encouraging Post-It notes were left in random places across campus for others to see.

The small gesture of a hug or high-five on Wednesday left many people feeling loved and happy even if just for a moment...

Monday was successful in reminding us all that there’s power in a simple smile, while Tuesday and Friday gave us the opportunity to thank those who deserve it most.

We are so glad to have made a difference in the lives of others, no matter how small it may have been - it’s all about the little things! We love to #SpreadTheAwesome.
